1. Kayangan Lake

Kayangan Lake Coron

Famous as the cleanest lake in the Philippines, Kayangan Lake is a crystal-clear oasis hidden between towering limestone cliffs. The water glows a striking blue-green, perfect for swimming and snorkelling. You’ll see schools of fish and fascinating underwater rock formations just below the surface.

Kayangan Lake is also a sacred site for the Tagbanua people, who help protect its natural beauty. Local guides share stories of its cultural significance, making a visit here feel both peaceful and special. Don’t miss the short hike up to the viewpoint—the panoramic view over the turquoise bay is one of Coron’s most iconic postcard shots.

To get to Kayangan Lake, book an island-hopping tour from Coron town. The trip includes a boat ride and a manageable climb up stone steps. Bring water shoes for comfort on the rocky shore, and pack a waterproof camera for the best photos.

For a more relaxing experience, visit early in the morning before the crowds arrive. Take your time to float in the calm water, soak in the scenery, and enjoy one of Palawan’s true natural wonders.

2. Twin Lagoon

Twin Lagoon

Twin Lagoon is one of Coron’s most unique and magical destinations. The spot is famous for its two lagoons separated by towering limestone cliffs, with a small opening that connects them. When the tide is high, you can swim or kayak through the gap; at low tide, you can float under a dramatic rock arch. The mix of fresh and salt water in the lagoon creates a cool, almost otherworldly swimming experience.

This place is popular for its stunning scenery and calm, emerald water. Many visitors come to float peacefully, watch the light dance on the limestone walls, and feel the sudden changes in water temperature. It’s a favourite for both adventure seekers and anyone who just wants to relax and take in the view. The peaceful vibe makes it easy to lose track of time as you drift between the lagoons.

Getting to Twin Lagoon is easy as part of most Coron island-hopping tours. Boats anchor in the first lagoon, and from there you can swim, kayak, or climb a small wooden ladder to access the hidden second lagoon. Bring a waterproof bag for your things and a snorkel if you want to explore the water’s surface.

Insider tip: Try to visit in the early morning or late afternoon, when the light is soft and there are fewer boats. Twin Lagoon is the perfect place to experience Coron’s dramatic landscapes and is a highlight of any Palawan itinerary.

3. Barracuda Lake

Barracuda Lake

Barracuda Lake is one of Coron’s most intriguing natural wonders. Tucked between steep limestone cliffs, this lake is famous for its surreal underwater landscape and unique thermocline—layers of warm and cool water that divers can feel as they swim deeper. The water is clear, almost glassy, and the scenery above and below the surface is unforgettable.

The lake gets its name from a large barracuda that was once spotted in its depths, adding to its sense of mystery. Today, Barracuda Lake attracts adventure seekers, especially scuba divers, who come to experience the changing temperatures and dramatic rock formations beneath the surface. Even for non-divers, swimming or snorkelling here feels like entering another world.

You can reach Barracuda Lake on most island-hopping tours from Coron town. Getting there involves a short, steep climb over sharp rocks, so wearing water shoes is a smart idea. The lake isn’t as busy as some other spots, so it’s a great choice if you want a quieter, more unusual stop.

For the best experience, take your time exploring both the surface and the depths if you’re a diver. Barracuda Lake stands out for its otherworldly beauty and is a must for anyone who wants to see a different side of Coron’s natural landscape.

4. Malcapuya Island

Malcapuya Island

Malcapuya Island is the definition of a tropical paradise. Famous for its long stretch of powdery white sand and calm, clear water, it’s a favourite for travellers looking to relax and soak up the sun. The gentle slope of the beach and crystal shallows make it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and wading along the shore.

The island is also a top spot for snorkelling. Colourful fish and patches of coral are easy to spot just a few metres from the sand. You’ll often see boats moored off the beach, their passengers happily floating or exploring the vibrant underwater life. Malcapuya feels more remote and peaceful than Coron’s busier stops, giving you space to unwind and enjoy the scenery.

Getting to Malcapuya requires a boat trip from Coron town, usually included in longer island-hopping tours. The journey itself is part of the experience, with wide ocean views and a refreshing breeze. Facilities on the island are simple—expect a few beach huts and local vendors, so it’s best to bring water, snacks, and sun protection.

For the best visit, try to arrive earlier in the day before more tour groups land. Spend some time simply walking the shoreline or lying under the palms. Malcapuya Island stands out for its unspoiled beauty, gentle atmosphere, and postcard-perfect beach—an essential stop for anyone chasing that true island escape in Coron.

5. Bulog Dos Island

Bulog Dos Island

Bulog Dos Island is a tiny but stunning gem just off Coron’s coast. It’s best known for its shifting sandbar, which connects Bulog Dos to nearby Malaroyroy Island at low tide. The soft white sand stretches out into brilliant turquoise water, creating an almost dreamlike scene that changes with the tide. This island is a favourite for photos, leisurely swims, and simply walking barefoot on the sandbar as the waves lap at your feet.

The shallow waters are perfect for wading and snorkelling. You’ll spot starfish, small fish, and sometimes even sea cucumbers in the clear shallows. The island itself is small, with just a few shaded spots under trees or makeshift huts—no shops or restaurants, so pack your own snacks and plenty of water.

Most island-hopping tours from Coron town include a stop at Bulog Dos, often paired with Malcapuya and Banana Island. The boat ride is pleasant, offering wide-open views and fresh sea air. Timing your visit for low tide will give you the full sandbar experience.

Simple wooden cottages line the beach, offering shade and a place to rest. Many island tours stop here for lunch, so you’ll often see tables set with fresh seafood or packed meals. Snorkellers will find coral gardens just off the beach, where colourful fish dart between the rocks.

Getting to Banol Beach is easy on most island-hopping tours, and the journey offers plenty of views of Coron’s signature limestone scenery. The beach can get busy around midday, so consider visiting earlier or later in the afternoon for a quieter experience.

7. Maquinit Hot Springs

Maquinit Hot Springs

Maquinit Hot Springs is a unique spot that offers something different from Coron’s beaches and lakes. Tucked beside a mangrove forest and facing the open sea, these natural saltwater springs stay toasty warm—sometimes reaching up to 40°C. After a day of island-hopping or hiking, a soak in the hot springs is the perfect way to unwind your muscles and relax.

The pools are surrounded by trees and set against a rocky coastline, so you can enjoy a peaceful soak while listening to the sounds of nature. Many locals and travellers believe the mineral-rich water has healing properties. At night, the experience is especially magical, with steam rising into the cool air and the stars overhead.

You can reach Maquinit Hot Springs by tricycle or motorbike from Coron town, about a 30-minute ride. Bring a towel, water, and flip-flops, as the paths and poolside rocks can get slippery.

Maquinit stands out because it’s one of the few saltwater hot springs in the world. It’s the ultimate place to end a busy day, soak away any travel fatigue, and enjoy a different side of Coron’s natural beauty.

8. Siete Pecados Marine Park

Siete Pecados Marine Park

Siete Pecados Marine Park is a snorkeller’s paradise. The name means “Seven Sins” and refers to the seven small limestone islets that dot the area. Under the water, the scene is even more impressive—healthy coral gardens, schools of colourful fish, and sometimes sea turtles or giant clams. The shallow, clear water makes it easy for even beginners to explore the marine life.

The marine park is a protected area, so the coral remains vibrant and the fish are plentiful. It’s a favourite first stop for many island-hopping tours from Coron town. Local legends add a touch of mystery to the area, with stories about the seven islands and their origins.

You can visit Siete Pecados as part of a tour, or hire a private boat for more time to explore. Bring your own snorkel gear if possible, as rental equipment may vary. Early mornings offer the best visibility and fewer crowds.

The beach is often used as a lunch stop for island-hopping tours. Simple huts provide shade, and the water is safe for kids and less experienced swimmers. It’s also a great place for a gentle snorkel, with small fish and colourful shells in the shallow water.

Divers and snorkellers flock to the area to explore the mysterious remains, which are covered in coral, sponges, and schools of fish.

Each wreck tells a story, and local dive guides know the history behind every site. Some shipwrecks are shallow enough for snorkellers to see, while others require advanced diving skills. Best Things to Do in Coron, Palawan

Here are some activities in Coron:

Joval Homestay- Affordable Accomodation in Coron, Palawan

Coron is a limestone archipelago in the Palawan province of the Philippines. It is home to some of the world’s most beautiful white sand beaches and clear blue waters, as well as seven lakes, one of which is nationally recognized as the cleanest lake in the Philippines. It’s one of those places that will make you realize that paradise truly exists! Coron is particularly well-known for its World War II wreck diving sites, many of which have landed Coron on multiple lists of the world’s top dive destinations. Although much of Coron’s beauty lies beneath the surface, there is no shortage of breathtaking scenery above it!

Coron, in my opinion, is still in its early stages and far less developed than El Nido.

It is also more beautiful and natural, in my opinion, and is better preserved.

But, in order to make the most of your time here and thoroughly enjoy it, you’ll need a few pointers.

Most importantly, how to avoid the tourist crush at the most popular sports in and around Coron and Coron Island!

This amazing Coron travel guide will provide you with all the information you need, including:

  • Coron’s best activities
  • Coron itinerary perfection
  • Finding a place to stay in Coron
  • Which Coron tour packages to take

What is the most convenient way to get to Coron?

You have two main options for getting to Coron:

  1. Flying
  2. Making use of boat transfers

1. Traveling to Coron

The quickest and most convenient way to get to Coron is by plane.

You land at Francisco B. Reyes Airport, which is located in the heart of Busuanga.

Coron Town proper is about a 30-40 minute drive from here.

When you arrive, there will be a swarm of local minibusses waiting to take you to Coron’s hostels and hotels.

People can reserve a shuttle bus through their hotel, and when they arrive, they will direct to the tour bus.

2. Making use of boat transfers

If you’re heading to Coron after exploring EL Nido, the boat transfer is probably the most popular mode of transportation.

When you return to EL Nido, you can take this route in reverse.

It takes approximately 3.5 to 4 hours to travel between these two islands.

Alternatively, you can book your tickets when you arrive; however, if you are traveling during peak seasons, this is strongly advised against as tickets sell out days in advance.

It is also recommended that you pick up your tickets from the local office as soon as possible in case of any problems, or that you ask your hotel to assist you in getting tickets (like Joval Homestay).

Coron, Palawan: Transportation Options

There are 3 main ways of getting around Coron.

1. Tours by Boat

The majority of the best things to do in Coron are on the water or on neighboring islands, so you’ll need to take a private or group boat tour.

More on all of this later!

2. Hire A Motorcycle For The Day

Rental bike shops can be found all over Coron Town.

You can hire them for a few hours, half a day, or even the entire day.

Prices range from 350 to 600 pesos depending on the company; you can rent a vehicle for 350 pesos for four hours, but if you visit around, you can get it a little cheaper.

Here are the prices provided by the company we selected as a reference.

3. Use the Public Tricycles

There are tricycles for hire all over Coron Town.

You can find these all over the Philippines, which are usually very cheap.

If you want a full tour of all the activities in Coron listed below, simply speak with a driver and negotiate a price.

We always assist our guests in hiring a tricycle with a driver; it is not expensive, especially when split between two or three people. They may also be able to point out some other hidden gems along the way.

Where Can I Stay in Coron?

Coron appears to have quickly exploded in homestays, hostels, and guesthouses in an attempt to keep up with the drastic increase in tourists to the area.

This means that spaces fill up quickly, especially in decent lodging.

As a result, if you don’t book far enough in advance, you’ll be stuck with a limited selection of poor-quality establishments charging prices well above what you’d expect to pay in the Philippines.

The Best Accommodation in Coron – Joval Homestay

Joval Homestay provides the benefits of hospitality accommodations and competent service—in a pleasant, relaxed setting that will definitely make you feel at home. It is situated in the center of Coron. The main attractions are accessible by boat. The beachfront is only 7 minutes away on foot, just enough to drown out the sounds of passing cars! It offers a fun atmosphere and a variety of activities. It welcomes all types of visitors and encourages socializing.

Reggie, the host, will make it simple for you to visit all of the wonderful sites surrounded by scenic beauty and captivating tourist attractions. He can also help you arrange transportation to and from nearby locations.

Which Coron Tour Package Is the Best?

When it comes to booking a tour of Coron Island, you have a lot of options!

There are seven main tours to choose from, and I’ll go over each one briefly below so you can look them over and decide which ones you want to see the most.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you read through the various Coron tour options below:

  • Some tours can be slightly modified; simply contact the tour agencies to discuss your options.
  • In general, all tour companies offer these seven packages as standard and charge very similar prices.
  • When you arrive at the airport, you will be hounded by people handing you their flyers. Feel free to take a few, they do come in handy.
  • The first four tours all take you to locations near Coron and Coron Island. The other three tours will necessitate additional travel time.
  • Some businesses have slightly different names for different locations. There are several “Green Lagoons” and Coral Reef locations, for example. Check with your tour operator ahead of time to confirm the exact locations you will be visiting.

Top 5 Tourist Attractions in Coron, Palawan

We’re going to give you five of our favorite tourist attractions in Coron here.

For lovers of nature and adventure, Coron is one of the most suitable places to visit in the Philippines. It has a lot of outdoor activities that you can do with your loved ones.

1. Kayangan  Lake

This well-known and renowned lake is one of Coron’s main attractions. Kayangan Lake, which is now ranked first on TripAdvisor’s list of “things to do in Coron,” is a brackish body of water that is distinctive. It is regarded as one of Asia’s cleanest lakes. The lovely lake is known for its turquoise waters, stunning limestone formations, and much underwater aquatic life. It can be reached after a 10-minute uphill trek.

When you find yourself in awe of the lush scenery as well as the clear and healthy waters where you can jump in, you’ve arrived at Kayangan Lake. It’s one of the island’s most recognizable features, and it’s included on Coron island-hopping tours that depart from the town on a regular basis. It’s also one of Asia’s cleanest bodies of water.

When your boat docks at the gate, you’ll have to walk a short distance to reach this beautiful tourist destination in Coron. As you approach the bay, take note of the towering limestone structures and blue waters. This is what makes Palawan so lovely.

When you enter the cove, take a stairway up to a vista where you can see the attraction’s most iconic shot. It’s the most well-known point in the neighborhood and a great place to take pictures before heading to the lake.

It’s the high point of the ultimate Coron tour. Take as many pictures as you like, and don’t forget to ask someone to photograph you!

You will then go down to the lake, whose brackish water is rather lovely. The combination of saltwater and freshwater makes the lake’s surface appear mirror-like. It seems shallow at first glance, and you can almost see the bottom from the walking platform.

When you go on Kayangan Lake excursions, you can swim in its turquoise waters, go freediving, and try to reach as near the bottom as possible. When diving, the clarity of the water allows you to see as far above and below as you can.

Kayangan Lake is a popular tourist destination in Coron. It is known as the “cleanest lake in the Philippines,” and some even claim it to be the cleanest lake in Asia.

2. Barracuda  Lake

Barracuda Lake is located on the other side of Kayangan Lake. It’s famed for its diving site, where you can observe skeletons of barracuda fish. The bluish-green waters and scenery are enhanced by the blending of salt and fresh water, which is the ideal temperature for swimming. Barracuda Lake is frequently included in a daily island-hopping trip from Coron

The boat ride to the lake is gorgeous; until you reach the mooring area, you will view limestone formations towering over the ocean. It’s one of the most wonderful experiences you may have when visiting Coron.

Before jumping into the pristine water, take plenty of photos and videos. Go freediving to feel the thermal gradient of the lake, or carry scuba gear to go deeper. The formations that surround the lake provide a breathtaking experience.

Barracuda Lake shares one feature with Kayangan Lake: its waters are a combination of fresh and saltwater. The distinction between the two lakes, however, is that Barracuda Lake is a thermal gradient.

It means that the water temperature fluctuates as you swim up and down. Swimming as far as you can to the lake is an exciting experience since you will notice the temperature change.

This is one of the top scuba diving places in Coron. Because the water in Barracuda Lake is a mix of freshwater and saltwater, divers may encounter temperature shifts from chilly to warm.

3. Twin Lagoon

The Twin Lagoon is one of Coron’s most gorgeous lagoons, where you can witness the remarkable mixing of fresh and salty water. This popular tourist location includes two lagoons: one where the boat land and one that is hidden. Swim through a tight hole and under the rocks to reach the second lagoon. This natural wonder will take your breath away with its crystal clear water and towering limestone structures.

Twin Lagoon, a popular destination in a Coron island-hopping package, offers more than meets the eye. Their blue waters are famed for feeling alternatively warm and chilling as fresh deep groundwater meshes perfectly with salt water.

The Tagbanua, who look after this tourist attraction, is one of the Philippines’ oldest ethnic groups.  They have an official ancestral domain of 22,000 hectares of land and water in Coron.

It grants them the sovereign right to manage the Calamianes archipelago’s natural resources, such as Kayangan Lake tours, beaches, and corals.

The boats will be parked in the first lagoons, so expect a large crowd or arrive early to prevent traffic. This is the lagoon where all the action takes place. It has breathtaking underwater views and crystal-clear water that is tranquil to swim in. Coron was a fantastic excursion. Coron will take you to a number of lakes. At low tide, you can enter the Hidden Lagoon, the Twin Lagoon’s lovely secret place, through the rocky wall. When you swim in this area, you receive an amazing experience.

The combination of freshwater and saltwater produces a temperature that is both warm and cold, making it ideal for swimming. Although the lake is beautiful as is, the water can be rather deep, thus it is recommended that you wear a life jacket to ensure your safety.

Twin Lagoons provide a one-of-a-kind experience that should not be missed. The lagoons are simply two small lakes built within limestone cliffs that meet the beautiful turquoise water.

4. Mt. Tapyas

A visit to Mt. Tapyas’ viewing platform is essential if you’re chasing sunsets. Despite the 724-step climb, the breathtaking view of Coron, which becomes better as you ascend, will make all the exertion worthwhile.

You’ll see a large white cross at the top, which you can also see around the town. Sunrise or sunset are the perfect times to undertake this Coron activity.

The rest of the steps on the mountain are concrete, making it simple to climb, and there are numerous platforms and seats along the way for people to rest before continuing.

Before you get to the summit, there are roughly 700 more stairs. Additionally, there are rails for you to grab onto as you climb.

As you slowly ascend to the top, breathe in the fresh air and take in the town from a bird’s eye view. When you get to the top, you’ll see a huge cross and get a panoramic view of the ocean and rolling hills. As a remembrance, capture your environment and yourself in photos.

Before starting the descent, take some time to rest; if you have the opportunity, wait until sunset to see the blue sky fade to crimson and finally dark. For those looking for additional activities to do while they are there, a half-day journey to Mount Tapyas is recommended. The effort needed to get there is rewarding.

Mt. Tapyas is a great place to get a panoramic view of Coron and watch the sunset.

5. Maquinit Hot Spring

There are attractions in town you can visit to take a break from the beach and islands after moving from one island to the next. The Maquinit Hot Spring is one of these attractions. The spring is located on Coron Island’s southern coast.

In Coron, soak in this soothing hot spring. After a long day of swimming and island hopping, joining a Maquinit Hot Spring and town tour is the perfect place to unwind. The walls of the building are fortified with a horde of rocks, and the pathway is rough with pebbles of all sizes. A mangrove forest in the region lends the place a tranquil atmosphere.

Swim in the spring to unwind your body and mind. Even for a short period of time, the heat will relax your muscles and calm your nerves, letting you unwind and forget about your troubles.

Improved blood circulation, better sleep, and the relief of various skin issues are a few advantages of taking a hot spring bath.

After climbing Mt. Tapyas, locals advise visiting Maquinit Hot Spring. After a strenuous hike up the mountain, the spring water helps to relieve your legs’ sore muscles.

Here, you may rejuvenate your body and get ready for another day of exploring Coron’s best attractions.

Make sure you are well equipped to participate in all activities, taste every delicacy, visit all locations, and explore the real world. Explore Coron tours and activities that you might include in your itinerary when you start to plan your trip to Coron.
